Republic is a city in Republic County, Kansas, United States. The population was 161 at the 2000 census.
Geography
Republic is located at (39.923636, -97.822412)GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 162 people, 84 households, and 49 families residing in the city. The population density was 616.0 people per square mile (239.1/km²). There were 108 housing units at an average density of 413.2/sq mi (160.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.38% White and 0.62% Native American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.86% of the population. There were 84 households out of which 20.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.8% were married couples living together, 4.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.5% were non-families. 38.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.92 and the average family size was 2.50. In the city the population was spread out with 18.0% under the age of 18, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 29.8% from 45 to 64, and 27.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 50 years. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.0 males. The median income for a household in the city was $27,679, and the median income for a family was $33,750. Males had a median income of $26,250 versus $16,250 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,399. About 8.7% of families and 9.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 31.6% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.
