Red Planet was the second game designed to run on the hardware at BattleTech Centers. The game involves racing flying high-speed mining vehicles through the canals of Mars in an alternative future.

Setting

In the year 2053, Mars is being mined for its resources by the Colossal Mining Corporation (CMC). The CMC uses a company store model to get maximum return on its workers (know as slags). Workers are lured to work on Mars by the promise of adventure and high wages. Once there, CMC charges them a fortune for food, water, housing and even the air they breath. Most slags end up owing more money then they can ever make. Known as Sub-Zeros, many become so desperate they'll do anything to escape Mars. Freeman Jack takes advantage of this and uses the promise of freedom (a return trip to earth) as the prize for the most dangerous death race ever.

Games

There are two styles of play: Martian Death Race and Martian Football.

Trivia

  • The training video for Red Planet includes Weird Al Yankovic as "Freeman Jack".
  • Some of the race courses in the game are named after pilots.
