Rankinston is a small ex-mining village in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It is situated twelve miles southeast of Ayr. The village has a population of around 200 people, and since the closure of the Littlemill Pit in 1974, villagers have had to travel to the local towns to find work. Built at an altitude of 200m, the towns of Ayr, Prestwick, and Troon are visible. Village facilities include a church, post office, bowling green, community centre, and a primary school.
