Gameplay is a free roaming typical level-up based MMORPG. You fight monsters, level up, obtain new skills and equipment to better yourself for upcoming battles. You can travel to different planets and explore new environments as well as battle other players and declare wars against other clans [guilds]. The game features its own in-game economy which is directly controlled by players. Supply and demand can change each day so it is up to you to seize the opportunity. You can obtain one of 4 branches of jobs at level 10, and 2nd Advanced jobs at level 70. The max level currently is 210. At level 210 you do not get experience but you are able to refine [upgrade] your weapons and armor to increase your power for Player vs Player. In addition to leveling through the method of acquiring experience points leading to a level after the defeat of a monster, a character may also aid their leveling experience with the use of Quests. Quests are initiated after being spoken to a NPC. Some quests are given a time limit so the character must complete the quest to be eligible for a reward. A reward may be constituted of material items and is usually accompanied with an experience point reward. Rewards from quests are affected by the amount of charm a character has. There are three types of items, to which the Inventory is divided: Equipment, items characters may wear on their bodies; Consumable which consists of consumable items that may recover HP, MP or Stamina, or perform an effect (i.e. dance, learn a skill, shoot fireworks, socket items), and Etc which covers general miscellany, such as materials for crafting, gems, and ammunition for weapons that need them.

Tuning System

There are a total of 3 forms of transportation available in ROSE Online:

Cart

The cart is basically a car. In order to drive a cart you have to complete a quest. The quest can be obtained by anyone level 50 or higher. The cart is owned by the player, and the player can buy better pieces for the car to improve its performance.

Castle Gear

Castle gear is what every high level player needs. It is a giant robot like thing, which the player drives. The player needs to be level 120 in order to drive castle gear. Castle gear is mostly used in pvp (player versus player). It is not user to get somewhere fast (like the cart), but it has a massive amout of power, which can become even more if the owner buys new and better weapons for it.

Flying Vessel

Unlike Carts and Castle Gears, the Flying Vessel cannot be owned by a user. It is operated by NPCs and ferries players from planet to planet. To an extent, the flying vessel is a prop employed by the game as to create the illusion that the character has traveled or will travel a considerable distance, as the "trip" is accompanied with a post-rendered video of the ship in question traveling towards a planet. The use of this service is provided if the character supplies the NPC who operates the vessel with a sum of in-game currency. A quest must be completed to acquire the ability to use the Flying Vessel in various versions.

Jobs

  • 1st Job: Level 10
  • 2nd Advanced Job: Level 70

Visitor

This is the job everyone starts with. At level 10 you can start a quest to become a Muse, Soldier, Dealer, or Hawker. Visitors may remain Visitors as long as they like, but unfortunately cannot use any skills except the basic ones. Visitors start out with a basic set of armor (the Visitor Look), a feather in your hair (for males), a pink ribbon (for females), a Wooden Sword and 200 Zulie (currency of ROSE Online).

Muse

Muses use magic to attack enemies or heal/enchant fellow players. Muses use intelligence as their main stat. Some Muses take hybrid builds such as adding dexterity, allowing them to use Katar-type weapons or Dual Weapons and giving them dodge rate, while still having Muse's skills to help them. They also add strength for added defense, HP, and weight limit. Muses use magic staffs or wands, the latter usually with a support tool. If Muses reach level 70, they can choose a second job: Magician or Cleric.

Mage

Mages are powerful spell casters who cast spells such as Ice Bang and Staff Stun. They are often used in parties as damage specialists. They can do a tremendous amount of damage when buffed.

Cleric

Clerics are the supportive branch of Muses. Clerics focus on making their healing spells and enchantments[buffs] stronger and mostly dependent on parties to level, but if needed they can summon monster to attack like an Elemental or a phantom sword, or can alternatively use summoning capsules.

Soldier

Soldiers are melee/ranged fighters, who focus on offense or defense. Soldiers use strength as their main stat. They party with other classes and provoke enemies to form a mob of monsters for higher and faster exp gain. Soldiers use one- or two-handed swords, blunt weapons, spears, axes, and shields. Their second job form is either Knight or Champion.

Knight

Knights are the defensive branch of Soldiers. Knights usually use one-handed weapons and shields and use area of effect skills, relying on their high defense to do it safely.

Champion

Champions are the offensive branch of Soldiers. Champions usually use two-handed weapons such as axes, spears and two-handed swords. Champions excel at destroying single enemies such as bosses, but cannot effectively take damage from (or "tank") multiple enemies at once.

Dealer

Dealers are the money-making class of ROSE. They typically use guns or launchers in combat, which use bullets and canon balls, therefor can make the dealer expensive, dealers are also skilled in crafting items. They can later change classes to become either an artisan (crafting) or bourgeois (money maker).

Artisan

Artisans are the money maker branch of Dealers. Artisans can craft equipment, carts, and castle gears; cut gems; upgrade equipment; as well as separate gems from socketed items. Because most Artisans prefer to use as many crafting skills as possible instead of fighting skills, they often focus on speed to accommodate their high chance to inflict critical hits, which deal three times the normal attack damage. Artisans are most commonly seen using guns.

Bourgeois

Bourgeois, or commonly referred to as Bourgs, are all about finding items and dealing damage. Bourgs are also known for their strong mercenary summons, which cost money to use. Bourgs have gun skills which are especially suited for PvP or launcher skills which are especially suited for PvM. Bourgs deal high damage to single enemies and have the greatest distance of fire, they are commonly used to gather materials to make zulie.

Hawker

Hawkers are fast characters, and wear light armor . They base themselves on dexterity, which is their main stat that supports damage and dodging. Hawkers use katars, dual weapons or bows. They can also hide, boost up their critical and dodge rate, and throw poison knives at their enemies.

Scout

Hawkers who prefer using bows advance to the Scout job, effectively allowing the Hawker access to the Scout skill tree which consists of skills that are involved in the projection of arrows. One skill that is unique to the Scout is the ability to conjure a Hawk summon, which aids the Scout in the game by attacking the character's highlighted hostile target. The ability of this hawk is highly controversial. Scouts are also given active skills that increase their attack range, as well as dealing additional damage or ailments; all of these supports are of less effect than those of a cleric.

Raider

Hawkers who prefer knuckles or dual weapons advance to the Raider job, which allows them to access skills which mainly inflict damage. There is one skill unique to this job, stealth, which allows them to become neutral, so no player nor any monster can kill them. It also increases there movement-speed (run speed).

Weapons

There are a variety of weapons to use in ROSE Online. The weapons aren't restricted by the player's job, but their level and a specific stat. Some weapons have "slots" in them, which allows the user to put a jewel or gem into it and increase certain stats. Dealers can craft their own gem into their weapons when they learn the skill.
Here is a list of the current weapon types in ROSE Online.

There are different rarities and forms of weapons and armor, their name are labeled in different colors:

  • Yellow: A common version of a weapon. These can be crafted by Artisans.
  • Blue: An uncommon version of a weapon that has boosted stats and has higher level requirement, or lower level requirement conditional to different versions.
  • Purple: These are very rare and special weapons.

Unique weapons, easily detected by their purple names, they are weapons with no level requirement and only require fairly large amounts of their weapon type's significant stat, usually ranging from 150~200. Regardless of their name, unique weapons aren't unique but very rare. Each unique weapon gives a fixed bonus of their own, usually a very substantial advantage. Unique weapons are never prefixed. Unique weapons are unrefineable in naRose, but in jRose they can be refined using Braveman's Talisman.

Gems & Sockets

Gems are a highly sought after material in ROSE Online. a Gem possess powerful stats that will make its wielder more powerful. Each Gem has 7 different grades, each grade is bigger and gives a more powerful stat, Gems can be created by Artisans with the Gem Cutting skill.

  • Ruby + Strength
  • Garnet + Dexterity
  • Sapphire + Concentration
  • Topaz + Intelligence
  • Pink Opal (Can be purchased from the Item Mall.) + Physical Defense
  • Emerald + Sense
  • Diamond + Attack
  • Peridot + Attack Speed

The ability to create sockets is to find rare items called Drills, the drills can create sockets in weapons, jewelry and chest armor. Once a Gem has been placed in the socket it cannot be removed. In Korean and International ROSE there was an NPC that could remove them but you had a 10% risk of reducing your gem by 1 grade, if the gem was grade 1, then it was destroyed.

Stats

Stats are obtained each time you level, each stat does a different thing. There is no restriction on which stat you add on your character. Note: When you get information about stats in-game, there are hidden elements of what each stat can do. Here is a list of what each stat can really do.

ROSE Online Services & Variants

While there are different versions of ROSE Online, there are some differences between them. These differences reside mainly in the quests as well as the skill system.

Korean ROSE / Japanese ROSE

The game's main quest is a large part of the game's quest content. It's also used to get to the second planet, Luna. The skill system works through a combination of skill books and SP (skill points). You first purchase a skill book for the skill you want and then you can upgrade it by using a certain amount of SP. The SP required to upgrade a skill varies from skill to skill, and will increase as the skill's level increases. All skills require at least several SP to upgrade even right from the start. Every time you level up you get a certain amount of SP proportionate to your level. As your level increases, so does the amount of SP you gain. Note: As of 4/11/2007 Korean ROSE has been deemed to shutdown.

Philippine ROSE / North American ROSE

The game's main quest, or commonly referred to as "Episode 1" was more developed in the International ROSE, the quest is much changed in more current versions. Starting at level 10 until level 210, you will gain one SP per level. To upgrade a skill you will need to use only one SP per level, but you only get one SP per level and all skills have strict level requirements. You will also gain Mp to use skill On July 4 2007, Level Up Games Inc. the company that franchised Philippine Ragnarok Online, ROSE and soon Ragnarok Online 2: Gate of the world all games by gravity announced that they will be shutting down as stated in the company's website. This will be effective August 1, 2007. http://www.levelupgames.ph/news_detail.php?id=439

As you may already know, we were put to the test when Triggersoft (Gravity’s development team for ROSE) not only ceased development and technical support for ROSE Online but also shut down all operations recently. Many thought this was the end. But resilient as we are, we found a way to survive. We decided to follow the free to play business model, a risky and bold move, but one that we were willing to take… all to keep a great game going, keep everyone happy and most of all, keep our community solid, intact and alive.

ROSE Evolution

ROSE Evolution is the new version, or massive update of ROSE, with the GUI, skills set, materials and crafting system completely changed. Japan ROSE migrated to Evolution the first, followed by korean ROSE, Philippine ROSE and the last North American ROSE on 24th August, 2006. ROSE Evolution is a union of both previous variants. The noticeable differences are:

  • A complete redesign of the User Interface.
  • New maps, including Desert of the Dead.
  • Change of starting location.
  • The refining system now uses weapon and armor grades.
  • Introduces completely new monsters.
  • Buffs have been changed to include percentage buffs.
  • Skills are tightly coupled to weapon. For example, Cleric can no longer use a staff to perform buffs and Hawker's skills are divided into weapon groups.
  • Blue gear, unique weapons, shields, back shields and wings can no longer be refined. (As per version 148 Japanese ROSE, back shields, bag and wings are refine-able)

ROSE Legend

After the closing of Korean ROSE and the end of the development by TriggerSoft, the two remaining providers, Japan ROSE and ROSE North America, decided to develop the game separately. Japan Rose chose to change its name from ROSE Evolution into ROSE Legend in the same time of introduction of the 4th planet Orlo on December 25, 2007. naROSE, however, stays with the name ROSE Evolution.
