Purcell is a city in Jasper County, Missouri, United States. The population was 357 at the 2000 census.
Geography
Purcell is located at (37.241951, -94.437670)GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.1 km²), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 357 people, 131 households, and 102 families residing in the city. The population density was 856.0 people per square mile (328.2/km²). There were 151 housing units at an average density of 362.1/sq mi (138.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.64% White, 2.24% Native American, 0.56% Asian, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.08% of the population. There were 131 households out of which 32.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.2% were married couples living together, 6.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.1% were non-families. 19.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.11. In the city the population was spread out with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 19.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.7 males. The median income for a household in the city was $31,964, and the median income for a family was $36,000. Males had a median income of $24,583 versus $17,813 for females. The per capita income for the city was $10,866. About 4.7% of families and 5.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.6% of those under age 18 and 5.4% of those age 65 or over.
