This article is about the modern meaning of the term public safety. For the French Revolutionary governing body, see Committee of Public Safety.
Public Safety involves the protection of the general population from all manner of significant danger, injury, damage or harm, such as may occur in a natural disaster, and the prevention of the same. This protection is typically provided by emergency service organizations such as police, fire and EMS. Additional organizations and job titles may include consumer protection, the emergency telephone number system, animal control officers, security officers, parking enforcement officers, police dispatchers, public prosecutors, code enforcement officers, various utility inspectors, and others.
