Piedmont Road, in Milpitas and San Jose, CA, is a primarily residential, two-lane, north-south avenue that runs between Calaveras Boulevard and Penitencia Creek. At its northern terminus, it continues with the name Evans Road. At its southern terminus, it continues with the name White Road. It is distinguished by very wide bicycle lanes and a general lack of stop-sign or stoplight controls, which makes the gently rolling road attractive to runners and cyclists. A huge contrast can be seen on Piedmont Road's scenery — while suburban developments lie on its west side, rural cattle ranches straddle its east side. The Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority 71 bus line runs on Piedmont starting at Landess, and the 59 line proceeds from the intersection with Cropley to terminate at the corner of Sierra and Piedmont. Each year, this road serves a part in the Tour of California cycling race, as it connects Calaveras to Sierra Road, one of the most feared climbs in the state.
