Penguin Group is the second largest trade book publisher in the world, right behind Random House. It is owned by Pearson PLC. Its United States arm is Penguin Group (USA); its British division is Penguin Books. Penguin Group (USA) was formed in 1996 as a result of the merger between Penguin Books USA and the Putnam Berkley Group. The company uses many imprints which used to be independent publishers.[1]
