Papa Bouba Diop (born 28 January 1978 in Dakar) is a Senegalese footballer, who currently plays for the Senegal national football team, and for Portsmouth FC. He transferred to Portsmouth from Fulham on transfer deadline day, August 31st 2007. His preffered position is centre midfield. His nickname is The Colossus, given to him by the fans at Fulham. He is perhaps most well-known for scoring the first goal of 2002 FIFA World Cup against France. This resulted in the 1-0 defeat of the then reigning world champions & ultimately, their shocking early elimination from the tournament. Senegal then went on to reach the quarter finals.
Private Life
Diop is a proud father of nine. the eldest being aged 14 and is a trainee solicitor. His wife, named Arianne, is a shoe model.
