Plot synopsis

A young opera singer (Betty) gets her big chance when the previous star of a production of Verdi's Macbeth is run over by a car. Convinced the opera is bad luck she accepts, and becomes the target (in Argento's unmistakable style) of a psychopath - a man she has been dreaming of since childhood.

Alternate Versions

Available in both R and Unrated versions.
The recent Anchor Bay release is the unrated version, containing all the gore and violence.
In the UK, 47 seconds were cut for the original UK cinema release, however for video, the BBFC demanded further cuts and the distributors cut additional footage. As a result 3 min 27 seconds were cut in total.
The film's premiere at Cannes had an English dub track that was reportedly laughed off the screen. When Orion Pictures got the U.S. rights to the film, they produced a new English dub, which is the soundtrack most commonly used for the film. The DVD released in the UK by Arrow Films contains the infamous 'Cannes track.'
