The Official Journal of the European Union is the gazette of record for the European Union. It has been published since the entry into force of the Nice Treaty on 1 February 2003. It is published in each of the 23 official languages of the member states. The Official Journal superseded the earlier Official Journal of the European Coal and Steel community which was published from 30 December 1952. This was renamed Official Journal of the European Community with the establishment of the European Community before taking its current title with the creation of European Union. The Official Journal comprises two series:
- The L series contains EU legislation including regulations, directives, decisions, recommendations and opinions.
- The C series contains reports and announcements including the judgments of the European Court of Justice and the Court of First Instance.
There is also a supplementary S series containing invitations to tender.
