Nuestra Belleza México is the official beauty pageant of Mexico. Held annually since 1994, the pageant is directed by the country's first Miss Universe, Lupita Jones. The winner is chosen to represent the country in Miss Universe, second place does the same in Miss World. The organization acquired the Miss International franchise in 2007, and will be expected send a representative (possibly one of the top five, aside from the winners chosen for Miss Universe and Miss World) sometime before that pageant. The organization's first representative, however, was chosen to be Priscila Perales, who also won the Miss International 2007 title. If one of the winners is unable to finish her reign, the runner-up, or as she is known in the pageant, the substitute, then takes her place as the titleholder. Over thirty contestants compete each year, representing their native states, although some states have been represented by more than one contestant the same year. The pageant is usually held the year before the winners participate internationally. Since Nuestra Belleza Mexico was first held in 1994, the highest placement obtained by a Mexican representative in the international pageants mentioned was by Miss International 2007 Priscila Perales. Other representatives that have been the closest to winning were Laura Elizondo (third runner-up in Miss Universe 2005) and Dafne Molina (first runner-up in Miss World 2005).

Señorita Mexico
Main article: Señorita Mexico
Before the creation of the Nuestra Belleza Mexico Pageant, the originally national beauty contest was the Señorita Mexico Pageant, which was the official pageant responsible for sending the country's representatives to the Miss Universe and Miss World from 1952 to 1993. Señorita México was replaced by Nuestra Belleza Mexico as the official beauty pageant of the country in 1994. Nuestra Belleza Mexico, which is directed by Lupita Jones, the country's first Miss Universe, also obtained the rights of sending Mexico's representatives to the pageants mentioned.
