Coordinates: 8°24′N 77°05′E / 8.4, 77.08 Neyyattinkara is a city and a municipality in Thiruvananthapuram district in the Indian state of Kerala. The name Neyyattinkara means the shore(kara)of neyyar. Neyyar is the river flows from Agasthakoodam, which is the heighest peak in south of Western Ghat of himalayas. Neyyattinkara is the major city on the bangs of Neyyar. Neyyattinkara lies 20 km to the south of Thiruvananthapuram city on the National Highway 47 to Kanyakumari. The ever growing Trivandrum city has almost reached its borders. Aruvippuram, the holy land of Sree Narayana Guru is an important pilgrim centre near Neyyattinkara. NeyyarDam is the beauty spot and tourist cente of Neyyattinkara at Kallikkadu panchayath. Taluk. There a famous church in Neyyattinkara thaluk named St Antonys church Kamukincodu which is 4 km from Neyyattinkara junction. Neyyattinkara gave birth to renowned revolutionories sch as Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai, VeeraRaghavan etc...They fought for the independent India and against the monopolitical rule of Travancore Diwans. Veera Veluthampi Dalawa born and broughtup at Thalakkulam near Neyyattinkara. Neyyattinkar is the land of meny strikes and struggles. Middle of Independent strike British military attacked the strugglers with guns and bullets. Like Veeraraghavan so meny volunteers throw their heart in front of the military. It is a historically important town, which is famous as the hiding place of Marthandavarma during his wars. The Shri Krishna Swamy Temple, where Marthandavarma hid beneth a huge jack tree during his wars, is a famous spot in the town surrounded with water. Neyyattinkara and the neighbouring areas has a lot of cottage industries and handloom.
