Neos was established on 22 June 2001 and started operations on 8 March 2002. It was started as a joint venture between Alpitour parent firm Finanziaria di Partecipazioni (IFIL), which is controlled by the Agnelli Group and the German tour operator, TUI. Since January 2004, Neos has been controlled by Alpitour (99.99%) and Welcome Travel Group (0.01%). It has 330 employees (at March 2007).[1]

On November 4, 2005 the airline started 4 weekly flights from Milan-Malpensa to Cuban resorts of Havana, Varadero, Santiago de Cuba, Cayo Largo and Varadero and Jamaica in Montego Bay.[2]

The Neos fleet includes the following aircraft (at December 2007) [1] :

Neos leased both of its Boeing 767 aircraft during the summer season of 2007 to Scottish airline Flyglobespan to operate its long haul destinations. It is expected that this will occur again as Neos have plans to lease these again and operate them on behalf of Flyglobespan.
