Other publications include Nature, the Nature research journals, the Nature Reviews series, the Nature Clinical Practice series, and a range of academic journals, including society-owned publications. Other services include Naturejobs, containing scientific career information, tools and jobs, the pre-print server Nature Precedings, Connotea, a free online reference management service for scientists, and Nature Network, the free social networking website for scientists. Contents

Availability

Most, but not all, publications of the Nature Publishing Group are only available to subscribers. Unlike in open access, it is forbidden to publish the edited version, i.e. the final article PDF with layout. However, authors are allowed to publish the accepted, unedited paper on their website or the funding body's archive no earlier than 6 months after publication[1].

Business model

The costs of most of NPG's publications are recovered via subscription to individuals and institutions. As an example a personal subscription to Nature currently costs $199 per year [2]. Institutional licenses are calculated depending on the size of the institution. For a mid-sized university (12-20'000 students, staff, and researchers) in Europe a subscription to Nature currently costs well above €7000 [3]. Notable exceptions to the subscription model are the EMBO Journal, EMBO reports, Molecular Systems Biology, and the British Journal of Pharmacology where authors can opt for publication fee and open access[4].
