Natural Selection is a music group best known for the 1991 US hit "Do Anything" featuring Niki Haris.

Contents

1989 Formation

The group started in 1989 by Elliot Erickson and Frederick Thomas. After the recording of their first recording, "Do Anything," Erickson's radio station caught on to the single, and Eastwest Records picked them up to give it a national release in early 1991. Later, Thomas linked with guitarist Edmund Darris and collaborated on several songs under the "So What Arts" management company, owned by Simply Red and managed by Lisa Barbaris. Keith Diamond, Billy Ocean's producer, was also a part of the project. Although the collaboration did not result in Thomas' record deal, the song "When The Morning Comes," produced by Darris, was brought to Curtis Mayfield. Mayfield wanted to sing the track on his final album, "New World Order," but Thomas refused to abandon Barbaris' management and sign with Mayfield. This caused a split between Darris and Thomas.
