Nancy Oliver is an American playwright, television and screen writer. Oliver began her career writing and directing for theater. She was a co-founder of the General Nonsense Theater Company and a member of Alarm Dog Rep. Her plays include Office, Dreams Are Funny, Calypso and VW. Her play, Social Life, is for children. She earned a B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Masters degree in acting and directing from Florida State University. Oliver joined the writing staff of Six Feet Under as a Staff Writer in 2002-2003, moving to Story Editor in 2004. In 2005, she was appointed Co-Producer during the fifth and final season. She has written 5 episodes for the series including the Season 4 finale, Untitled and Ecotone, which won the Fan Favorite episode on HBO.com. In 2005-2006, she worked as Producer on NBC's "Windfall" and in 2007 began as Supervising Producer on HBO's Louisiana vampire series, True Blood, created by Alan Ball. Her first feature film is Lars and the Real Girl, released October 12, 2007, directed by Craig Gillespie and produced by John Cameron, Sarah Aubrey and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. The film, starring Ryan Gosling, details the complex relationship a troubled introvert forms with a sex doll he buys on the internet. Emily Mortimer co-stars as his sister-in-law, Karin, Paul Schneider as Gus, Kelli Garner as Margo and Patricia Clarkson as Dagmar.
