Muse is a magazine, recommended for ages 10 and up, published by Carus Publishing, the publishers of Cricket.[1] It features articles on history, science, and the arts. Muse encourages you to think by offering questions that don't have definite answers. Nine cartoon characters known as the Muses appear in the margins throughout the magazine. Among them, only Urania was one of the original Greek muses; Kokopelli is a trickster (who love to throw pies) and is a god in many native american tribes. Muse magazine is published nine times every year. Each issue contains a comic ("Kokopelli & Company") written by Larry Gonick, a spoof of the subject of the issue, a mathematics article by Ivars Peterson, letters from readers, a contest, and a question-and-answer page, written by Robert Coontz and Rosanne Specter, and articles on various topics. Past issues have covered vegetarianism, pie throwing, alien life, Naked Mole Rats, the origin of the moon, pirates, urban legends, insects, mummies, tenrecs, the history of napkins, New Zealand's exploding trousers, Rube Goldberg inventions, The Lord of the Rings, and blind cavefish. Muse's Q&A columnists run an unofficial fan page and online forum, MuseBlog, for readers.
