Motti Ashkenazi, a 33-year-old reserve captain in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), helped spark the movement that led to the resignations of Prime Minister Golda Meir and Defense Minister Moshe Dayan. He was the captain of Budapest, an Israeli outpost on the Suez Canal. This was one of the only IDF outposts that did not fall to the Egyptians in the Yom Kippur War. Motti Askenazi was so outraged at the leadership of the war that he started a protest infront of the Prime Minister's office. Moshe Dayan and others underestimated him, with Dayan saying, "The people have said their piece, and no demonstration or rally will bring down the government." After three months, Golda Meir's government resigned. His protest eventually led to the demise of the Labor Party which governed Israel for the first 29 years of statehood.
