Moore is a small municipality in Spartanburg County in the upstate of South Carolina. The population is estimated to be around 300, however, over 5,000 people live in the area designated as the Moore postal area. Moore has no major bodies of water. It is growing into a suburb of Spartanburg.

Geography

Moore is located in the piedmont (locally known as the Upstate) region of South Carolina at a latitude of 34.833N and a longitude of -81.992W. The elevation of Moore is 725 feet above sea level1. Moore is located south of Spartanburg on US Route 221 and is one mile west of Interstate 26.

Agriculture

Moore is famous for its Niven's Apple Farm, one of the largest producers and sellers of apples in Spartanburg County. Corn is also a relevant product. Cattle are the only main livestock.

Entertainment

At one point, Moore was home to the studio of the Marshall Tucker band. The band is now defunct and the studio is no longer used, but it still stands on the Main Street (SC HWY 290) beside the post office and Presbyterian Church. Moore is also the worldwide headquarters of the amateur movie company DUMM Productions DUMM Productions. Moore is also home to Walnut Grove Plantation, one of the first colonial English settlements in South Carolina. It was instrumental as a bastion of patriotism during the Revolutionary War. Moore is the former home of the Bruns Racing Team, which recently refocused its efforts from car racing to airplanes and scuba diving.

Education

Moore boasts three schools. They are part of the Spartanburg District 5 and 6 School system. First is R.D. Anderson Applied Technology and Vocational School, the tech prep center for Byrnes, Dorman, and Woodruff High Schools. River Ridge Elementary is the newest elementary school in Spartanburg District 5. Also, Anderson Mill Elementary School, a part of Spartanburg District 6, is located in Moore.

Religion

Moore is predominantly Southern Baptist, led by churches such as River Hills Baptist and Poplar Springs Baptist. Presbyterians are the second largest influence, with Redeemer Presbyterian Church (ARP) and Center Point Presbyterian Church (PCA). The Church of Christ follows in third.
