Miranda is an unincorporated small town in Southern Humboldt County, California. Near to the southern entrance to the Avenue of the Giants, Miranda is home to South Fork High School, the main high school of Southern Humboldt Unified School District. The school's name refers to the South Fork of the Eel River. The alternative school, Osprey, is located on the campus of defunct Miranda Junior High. The town was named by a former postmistress and is within a five minute walk of the south fork of the Eel River, amidst giant redwood trees. Miranda is on the Avenue of the Giants between Myers Flat to the north and Phillipsville to the south. The town has a post office, two restaurants, a motel, a market, a Seventh-day Adventist church and one room school (grades 1-8), a gas station, and a gift shop. There is also a glass gallery one mile south of Miranda near where the Avenue of the Giants connects with Highway 101.
