Miramar is located in Puerto Rico's capital city of San Juan, close to historic Old San Juan and part of Santurce's 40 “sub-barrios” , it measures 0.63 km(632,154 m²), with a resident population of 5440, as of U.S. U.S. Census of 2000. It is situated on the north western part of Santurce adjacent to Isla Grande where the Puerto Rico Convention Center is located to the west, Baldorioty de Castro Boulevard and Condado Lagoon to the north, Barrios Alto del Cabro and Gandul to the east and Hoare towards the South. Miramar is an exclusive residential neighborhood where primarily middle to upper class families reside, characterized by quiet streets lined with large, mature shade trees, there are still a handful of historical residences with the charm and atmosphere from the bygone era including several Prairie School arquitectural style buildings by Internationally renowned architect Antonin Nechodoma, Miramar's rich architectural legacy is now now protected by laws as it was was designated an historical district of Puerto Rico.[1] Many high rises including a 23-story building with a roof-top restaurant that resembles an air traffic control tower also dot the area and as its name implies, Miramar (Sea View), enjoys wonderful ocean views and breezes. Miramar is also home to the coeducational Catholic parochial school Academia del Perpetuo Socorro ("Academy of Our Lady of Perpetual Help"). Pedro Rosselló, who would later on become Puerto Rico's sixth popularly elected governor, is an alumnus. Other famous Academia del Perpetuo Socorro alumni include Benicio del Toro and Raúl Juliá.
