Milford High School, a member of the Huron Valley School District, includes grades 9-12 and is located in Highland, Michigan, in Oakland County, Michigan. The athletic teams were called the Redskins until administrators, in cooperation with outspoken native American students and organizations, decided to change the name during the 2002-2003 school year. The new athletic team name—the Mavericks—was adopted after a school-wide vote. The school colors are maroon and white. It was founded in 1869. The school has a successful athletic department with several sports teams playing at local, state, regional and national levels. The Varsity Girls Bowling team was first place in their conference for 5 years in a row. In 2005, the team took first place in the state of Michigan in the Class A division. The H.O.T. (Heroes of Tomorrow) robotics team, with the extensive help of General Motors engineers, finished at the 2005 FIRST robotics competition Championship Event. This team is a combination team between students from Milford and Lakeland High School, the other main high school within Huron Valley. The Milford High School Marching Band has had many finishes in regional and national levels. The football team is considered one of the most fortunate in the Kensington Valley Conference (KVC), which contains schools around southeastern Michigan. Milford lost in the elite 8 of the MSHAA Division 1 Football playoffs to Rockford High School 21-14. The school's business oriented club, DECA, is also very successful with many of its students reaching national competitions. Its current principal as of September 2006 is Mr. Krystyniak.
