Mike Weaver (born May 2, 1978 in Brampton, Ontario) is a Canadian ice hockey defenceman. Weaver grew up in Brampton starting out playing minor hockey for the local Brampton Maroons in his early years before joining the Richmond Hill-Vaughan Kings of OMHA. After being a 7th round draft choice of the OHL's Guelph Storm in 1995, Weaver decided to remain playing OHA Jr.A. hockey to maintain his NCAA scholarship eligibility. Weaver played Tier II Jr.A. with both the Thornhill Islanders and the Bramalea Blues. His final season with the Blues he led the club to the Dudley Hewitt Cup Championship as Ontario Jr.A. Champions and a berth in the Royal Bank Cup in Yorkton, SK in 1999. The diminutive defenseman acquired a scholarship with the Michigan State University Spartans and spent four very productive years in the NCAA. Weaver was signed as a free agent by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2003. He has played for the Los Angeles Kings and Atlanta Thrashers of the NHL and their minor league affiliates in the AHL. Weaver was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Thrashers on June 15, 2000. Weaver has currently played 149 career NHL games, notching up 3 goals and 21 assists for 24 points. On August 8, 2007, he signed a two-way contract to play for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Just before the start of the season he was placed on waivers and picked up by the Vancouver Canucks.
