Background

Mickey is the son of Mike Swann and Rosie Miller. Mike left the family when Mickey was just three years old. He grew up with his sister Dawn and later his half siblings Demi and Darren Miller. He has always considered his mother's long-term partner, Keith Miller, to be his father, and uses his surname (although Dawn has openly expressed her dislike for slob Keith, and continues to praise her biological father).

History

Mickey arrived in Walford in 2003, selling dodgy goods to Spencer Moon. His character has since been made a regular and delved into a little more, and he has changed from a simple dodgy dealer into a sensitive young man with a heart of gold. His family arrived in the show in 2004. Mickey's main love interest on the show was Kareena Ferreira, who decided to leave Walford with the rest of her family rather than stay with Mickey. When Mickey went to visit his sister Dawn in France, little did he know that Dawn had a surprise for him in the shape of their biological father, Mike Swann. Mickey was less than impressed with his father's sudden return to his life and gave him an earful. He told him how Dawn waited for birthday cards from him that never came and how she travelled from the age of 16 to find him. Mickey refused to forgive Mike for ruining his big sister's childhood. After hearing this from Mickey, Mike assumed that Rosie had poisoned Mickey against him, which lead to a scuffle between the father and son, witnessed by Dawn. Mike tried to make excuses to Mickey, even revealing that he used to drive past the Millers' and tried to visit once, but they weren't there. Mickey was unimpressed with his dad's excuses and refused to believe a word. They eventually called an uneasy truce. But Mike wasn't to be trusted and tried to con Mickey's friend Minty out of his life savings, only to return and give the money back to Dawn and Mickey, finally having a conscience. Dawn tried to convince Mike to let her join him on his travels, but to no avail. They agreed to stay in touch, and Mickey returned to Walford with Dawn. Mickey has since done building work with Joe Macer and Bert Atkinson, and entered into a relationship with Li Chong, although it seemed Li likes Mickey more than he likes her. His relationship with Li progressed however, and they eventually both moved into Gus Smith's flat. While there, Mickey found out that Li was growing cannabis and was initially furious but she managed to convince him it was innocent and ended up blaming him for not having work. Mickey applied for a job as a post boy at Bradley Branning's office and was turned down, although the interviewer made a pass at him. Li then advertised Mickey as a male escort behind his back but Mickey was told by Gus, after which Mickey warned Li to take the advert off. In July 2007, he left Gus's dog Wellard outside the café while breaking up with Li; when leaving a few minutes later, Wellard had disappeared. He and Preeti tried to look for him, but in the end, Wellard came back to Gus after Jay Brown had been temporarily caring for him.
