Meru National Park is a Kenyan forest reserve located east of Meru, 350 km from Nairobi. Covering an area of 870 km², it is one the lesser known parks of Kenya. Due to abundant rainfall it has tall grass and lush swamps making it difficult to spot game unlike other African parks. It has a wide range of wild beasts like elephant, hippopotamus, lion, leopard, cheetah and some rare antelopes. This is where George and Joy Adamson released several hand-reared animals, and Joy's cheetah Pippa. It was hit by poachers before security was beefed up. The Mulika Lodge Airport serves Meru National Park.
