Mercedes McQueen (previously Owen) is a fictional character on the long-running British Channel 4 television soap opera Hollyoaks. She is played by Jennifer Metcalfe and made her debut in June 2006, the second McQueen character on the show, after Michaela.

Character history
She is a bit of a trouble maker, shown within hours of arriving she threatened to sue Sophie Burton for 'maiming' her during a massage at Evissa. She's a brash and bossy character that causes trouble straight away. She made an enemy of Sophie and gets her claws into Russ Owen. Russ Owen kissed her so he could get proof of her with her neck-brace off, but things went wrong when Mercedes got her own back by revealing to Sophie what she and Russ got up to. On the day that Sophie died in the explosion, Russ was cheating on her with Mercedes. Mercedes fell out with Russ after Jessica published his research on the McQueens in the students' paper. They have made up now, as Russ sold his wakeboard to buy her mother, Myra, a car. When Russ admitted to Mercedes that he had crabs, he accused her of sleeping with someone else, they split-up. That night, Mercedes slept with Warren Fox, in the morning, her and Russ found out that it was Myra that had crabs, and was spreading them around with dirty towels (due to the washing machine being broken).
Marriage to Russ
Mercedes and Russ reconciled, but she slept with Warren, not once but twice. Feeling guilty, and perhaps having clearer judgement due to cheating on Russ, Mercedes then asked Russ to marry her (whilst he was planning on asking her the same thing) at the reception for older sister Jacqui's sham wedding to Aleksander. On the build up to her and Russ' wedding, Mercedes booked the same day as sister Tina's wedding, knowing it's Nana McQueen's birthday, Myra convinced them to have a double wedding. The wedding looked like it was nearly off though when Russ' ex Dannii Carbone and she believed they were back together but Russ and Mercedes sorted it out and Danni left Hollyoaks Village behind. Mercedes is once again seen sleeping with Warren behind Russ's back during Tina's Hen Night. However, Jacqui finds out about the affair the next day when Mercedes reveals it in her guilt. However, when Warren uses Mercedes as his alibi (regarding the attempted murder on Clare Cunningham) , Mercedes completely denies it to save her wedding. This results in Warren's continued incarceration and Mercedes being plagued by guilt. She still continues to lie to Russ, to her family and to the police.
The truth is revealed
With Warren's court case fast approaching, Mercedes was receiving threats and pressure from everyone who knows. In August, Russ found out she has been visiting Warren in jail and it didn't take him long to figure out why. Mercedes' conscience caught up with her and she appeared as a witness at Warren's trial, as she came in at the last minute. After Russ found a note from her in the apartment saying "I'm so sorry. I love you" and he headed to the court in time to see Mercedes takes the stand. She told the court that she was with Warren on the night that Clare was pushed. After hearing that she was in bed with Warren, Russ stormed out of the court room and she attempted to follow him but is stopped when the judge threatens to hold her for interrupting the trial. Her statement later results in Warren's release. She found Russ and tried to explain she did the right thing not letting an innocent man go to prison, but Russ dished the insults to Mercedes that he should have stayed with Sophie and if it wasn't for Mercedes she would still be alive and says that he wants nothing more to do with her. Mercedes was working at the relaunched Dog in the Pond as a barmaid working for Frankie and Jack Osborne, Kris Fisher, Steph Dean and Darren Osborne. When everyone found out John Paul McQueen and Craig Dean were having an affair, Mercedes defended her brother against Frankie's attacks, and Frankie fired her. A few days later, Frankie told Myra that Mercedes could come back if she wanted to. She also went to her brother John Paul McQueen's house warming party but wasn't there long enough to get affected by carbon monoxide poisoning as she went off with Danny Valentine.
One night stand with Tony
On the 6 November 2007, after an argument with Jacqui, a drunken Mercedes and a drunken Tony slept together. It was revealed, following a subsequent pregnancy test, that Mercedes was pregnant. She later revealed to a stunned Tony that she was having an abortion and that it was his child, given that she had only slept with one man (him) in the past month. After almost being persuaded to give the child once it was born to Jacqui, who did not know Tony was the father, Mercedes realised she could not cope watching her sister bring up her child and had an abortion. The song "Happy Ending" by Mika plays throughout Mercedes having a abortion.
