Before becoming McClymonds Educational Complex in 2005, McClymonds High School, also known as "Mack," and "Mack House," was a public high school in the West Oakland neighborhood of Oakland, California, USA. The school song was as follows: O' McClymonds, O' McClymonds,
You're the High for me.
To you we give our faithful love
and our loyalty- Boom, Boom
for McClymonds, for McClymonds.
Give a rousing cheer.
Shout fellow, shout McClymonds
loud and clear.

History

McClymonds was founded in 1923. The school was named after J.W. McClymonds, who at one time was the superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District. Some of its many famous alumni include MLB players Vada Pinson, Frank Robinson, Curt Flood, and Curt Roberts, the first African American fielded by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Others include NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell, NBA player and coach Paul Silas, and NBA players Joe Ellis, Nate Williams, and Antonio Davis. Still others include Jim Hines, Olympic gold medalist, 100 yard dash record holder, and the first man to break the 10 second barrier, as well as Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell, one of the greatest street basketball players. Rapper MC Hammer is also among McClymonds alumni.[1] In the early 1980s, a former McClymonds student, Haneefa Olufemi, set fire to another student's hair using a lighter. In 1994, Olufemi became a violence prevention counselor for McClymonds. As of 2005, McClymonds possessed an API score of 486, a statewide rank of 1, and a similar schools rank of 2.[2] Due in part to its relatively low standardized test scores, McClymonds nearly closed down entirely in 2005, but instead was split into McClymonds Educational Complex.
