Origin

MacCabe, McCabe are Anglicizations of MacCába (Irish Gaelic), meaning son of Cába.[2] The nickname or personal name Cába, is of an uncertain meaning.[2] The MacCabes were originally from the Western Isles of Scotland, and settled in Ireland with the arrival of the Gallowglass[3] (foreign soldiers from the highlands and isles of Scotland). The MacCabes were thought to have originally settled in Breifne, what is today County Cavan and County Leitrim.[3]
