The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is according to U.S. News & World Report the leading [1] public policy school offering master degrees in Public Affairs in the United States. It is a part of Syracuse University that offers degrees in the social sciences and public and international affairs (at the master and Ph.D. levels). The Maxwell School was dedicated on October 3, 1924 and is the oldest of its kind in the United States. It has been consistently ranked as the top graduate program for public affairs in the country by U.S. News and World Report [2][3], and as one of the top ten professional schools for international relations by Foreign Policy magazine[4]. The Maxwell School is named for George Holmes Maxwell, a Boston patent attorney who donated $500,000 to the university in 1924. It is best known for its Public Administration and International Relations programs, and is a member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). Its Master of Public Administration (MPA) program is the oldest continuously operating University-based program in the country [5]. The school boasts a strong tradition of interdisciplinary research, and offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in anthropology, economics, geography, history, international relations, political science, public administration, social science, and sociology. The school was mentioned several times on the popular and critically acclaimed television show, The West Wing. The School offers dual professional degrees between its public administration and international relations programs, the Syracuse University College of Law, the Newhouse School of Public Communications, the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, and the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University.
