Marina del Rey (Spanish for "Navy of the King", or "Seacoast of the King") is a census-designated place seaside community located in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 8,176 as of the 2000 census. Marina del Rey is four miles from the Los Angeles International Airport. The Fisherman's Village offers a view of Marina del Rey's dominant feature, the largest man-made small boat harbor in the world, with about 7000 pleasure boats and yachts.
The marina is surrounded by high-rise condos, hotels, apartments, shops, and restaurants, as well as the USC Information Sciences Institute and ICANN, the de facto governing organization of the Internet. There are also a large number of shopping centers lining Lincoln Boulevard just to the east. It is served by the three-mile-long Marina Freeway (State Route 90) which links Marina del Rey directly to Interstate 405 and nearby Culver City. Marina del Rey lies in area code 310. Geography
Marina del Rey is located at (33.979361, -118.452912). GR1. It is located just south and east of Venice and just north of Playa del Rey and the Ballona Creek. Venice actually extends north and south just west of Marina del Rey up to the north edge of the entrance channel. Just south of the entrance channel lies Playa del Rey. Marina del Rey is completely surrounded on all sides by the City of Los Angeles; just east of Marina Del Rey is the community of Del Rey in Los Angeles City. The beach-style homes, the strip of land and the beach itself just west of Marina Del Rey are within the City of Los Angeles limits, but with a Marina del Rey address. The name of this strip is Marina Peninsula. Via Dolce and the southern portion of Via Marina are the boundaries between L.A. City and the unincorporated area According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.5 mi² (3.8 km²). 0.9 mi² (2.3 km²) of it is land and 0.6 mi² (1.5 km²) of it (40.14%) is water.
Demographics
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 8,176 people, 5,315 households, and 1,520 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,587.2/km² (9,289.5/mi²). There were 6,321 housing units at an average density of 7,181.8/mi² (2,773.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 82.46% White, 4.68% African American, 0.16% Native American, 8.21% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 1.30% from other races, and 3.03% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.34% of the population.
There were 5,315 households out of which 6.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 22.7% were married couples living together, 3.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 71.4% were non-families. 57.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.54 and the average family size was 2.31. In the CDP the population was spread out with 6.4% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 50.4% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 108.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.6 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $68,447, and the median income for a family was $84,390. Males had a median income of $66,928 versus $51,854 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $58,530. About 6.5% of families and 8.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.6% of those under age 18 and 6.2% of those age 65 or over.

Marina del Rey is served by the Los Angeles Unified School District. Marina del Rey residents are zoned to Coeur d'Alene Avenue Elementary School, Marina del Rey Middle School, and Venice High School.
