Rivalry with St. Joseph High School
A long standing rivalry exists between Marian High School and nearby St. Joseph High School in South Bend, Indiana. While many reasons exist for this rivalry, the most contentious concerns the mutual home field in football. The field actually belongs to Marian High School, but is shared with St. Joe due to their lack of a field. Under normal circumstances this results in Marian playing home games on weeks when St. Joe is away, and vice versa. When the schools play against each other, Marian is home and St. Joe away. One notable exception to this occurred in 1996 when St. Joe's homecoming game happened to be scheduled against Marian.
