Majin Buu (魔人ブウ Majin Buu?) is a fictional graphic novel supervillain who first appears in the Dragon Ball manga created by Akira Toriyama. As the manga was adapted to anime, it was split into two sub-series; Buu appears in the second sub-series called Dragon Ball Z, and a third anime-only sub-series called Dragon Ball GT. Following the success of Dragon Ball, he also makes a minor reappearance in Toriyama's self-parody called Neko Majin Z. Majin Buu was rated by Wizard magazine as the 40th greatest villain of all time.[1]

Development
Like many Dragon Ball characters Buu's name is part of a joke. When placed with his creators Bibidi and Babidi, the names phonetically form the phrase, "Bibidi Babidi Buu" — an obvious parody on the song "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" — featured in Disney's Cinderella.
Appearance
Majin Buu's design is very unique when compared to the other characters in the series. There are several counterparts of Buu, but the basic appearance is pink skin, a single antenna sprouting from the top of the head, and a line of small spouts around the cranium and down the arms. All counterparts except one possess these traits; evil Buu, whose skin is instead dark gray. When Majin Buu first appears he is very large, but most of Buu's other forms are average in their weight.
Personality
Although he is one of the most powerful entities in Dragon Ball Z, Buu is often playful and childish, revealing he destroys things for fun simply from old instructions from his master, stopping once told what he was doing was wrong. He literally struggles with the evil inside himself, with the latter winning and usurping near complete control, Buu becoming far more dangerous as a result. Buu's personality changes with each transformation he undergoes, varying from an unintelligent child to a cruel, efficient killer to a mass-murdering lunatic.
Character history
Origin
Majin Buu is introduced in the Dragon Ball Z series during the final saga called the Buu Saga. Buu is a five million year old extraterrestrial monster who has been dormant on Earth for most of his life. Due to his extreme power and ruthless nature, the wizard Bibidi had him sealed away on Earth millions of years before Dragon Ball. Bibidi's son, the wizard Babidi, would search for Buu in an attempt to revive him and continue his father's work. Before he was sealed away, Bibidi battled the supreme rulers of the Universe (Kaioshin) with Buu. Majin Buu then used his power to kill or absorb the Kaioshin. However, one of them was so pure that it ended up changing Buu's heart from ruthless to innocent. One of the Kaioshin (the East) escaped and later killed Bibidi after Buu was sealed away.[2] Kid Buu is the original demon created by Bibidi[3] and Uub is the pure good, reincarnated version of Kid Buu.[4]
Forms
Majin Buu has many forms from the fat original Buu to the pure evil Buu to Super Buu and kid Buu. In his super form he absorbs Gotenks the fusion of Goten and Trunks but also absorbs Gohan after he had been training with the Supreme Kai this made him very powerful. Goku and Vegeta fuse into Vegeto to Beat Super Buu. Super Buu is then destroyed but then transforms into Kid Buu (Buu's perfect form) and completely annihalates heaps of people. After a long and intense battle,Kid Buu was finally defeated by the combined efforts of Goku, Vegeta, Majin Buu and even Hercule, where they all pitched in to use the Super Spirit Bomb.
Majin Buu (Fat)
First Buu introduced to the series, Majin Buu is kind and pure at heart, although he has a deep unsettling need to destroy. Though he is the weakest of the Buu's, he is extremely powerful and kills the most humans of the other Buu's. However, Buu is persuaded by Mr. Satan to become peaceful and stop killing. However, Buu's puppy, Bee, is shot and almost killed by two terrorists. Buu almost looses his head, but he is able to heal Bee, and Mr. Satan is able to calm him down. When Mr. Satan is shot by the same terrorists, Buu goes insane, and steams out a gigantic cloud of his evil, which forms into Evil Buu. Of all the Buu's, Fat Buu is the one most prone to candy, turning entire cities into chocolate and cake.
Evil Buu
Only shown in the series for a few minutes, he is the result of Majin Buu's evil escaping through his steam sprouts. Unlike Majin Buu, he is sickly gray, very tall, and extremely skinny. He is also several times more powerful than Majin Buu.
Abilities
Being presented in the manga and anime as of a mystical nature, Majin Buu displays many unusual powers. He exhibits total control any part of his body even if it is separated from himself, including stretching or otherwise manipulating its form. Buu possesses vast superstrength and superspeed. Buu has the ability to "absorb" other beings and take on their physical and mental traits in order to enhance his own strength and abilities. This is achieved by covering the victim in Buu's body or a separated piece of his body that has been stretched to accommodate the target. The being is then held in a comatose state inside Buu's body. Buu also displays the ability to convert any living being into inanimate objects such as candy, milk, eggs and even clay. Another ability which is only seen once when he is in his evil form (Evil Buu) is to turn himself into pink goo and enter other people's bodies like he did with Veggetto where he turned himself into pink goo and entered Veggetto's body through his mouth enlarging his muscles to an enormous size. Buu's most effective power is his uncanny ability to regenerate from high levels of damage, even if his body is almost completely destroyed. This ability gave him his greatest advantage over foes who were able to damage him but not completely eliminate his malleable body. Buu can regenerate lost limbs, repair physical damage and even pull his body together after being separated into several hundred pieces. His final prominent ability is his innate talent at understanding and learning the techniques of others instantaneously. After seeing an attack only once, he can replicate it almost flawlessly. He is also able to utilise the techniques of those he has absorbed.
Appearances in other media
Video games
Buu has appeared in many Dragon Ball video games. Most games have only featured his Super Buu, Kid Buu and Fat Buu forms, though recent games such as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi and its sequels have made Evil Gray Buu available to be played as well.
Neko Majin Z
Fat Buu appears as a cameo in Neko Majin Z, a short series of one-shot manga chapters by Akira Toriyama. Neko Majin's friend finds Buu just wandering around after mistaking him for Neko Majin. Buu is surprised that Neko Majin's friend doesn't know who he is and breaks the fourth wall by mentioning that he's from the Dragon Ball manga. Buu displays his strength while Neko Majin's friend remains unsurprised and responds by saying that Neko Majin does stuff like that all the time (he also mentions how Neko Majin looks and acts similar to Buu). Buu leaves and tells Neko Majin's friend to call him to fight Neko Majin when he comes around. Later, Neko Majin's rival had stolen the source of his power, so Neko Majin's friend called Buu and told him that Neko Majin's rival was Neko Majin. Buu easily beats him and leaves very unfulfilled.
