Reputation

Mahidol University is one of the most prestigious universities in Asia in general and in Thailand in particular. It was ranked number one by the Thai university league table for 2006, which was conducted for the first time by Thailand's Commission on Higher Education. The result of the table which was released in September 2006 shows that Mahidol University excels all other Thai universities in terms of qualities of both teaching and research. However, there was a criticism of the study in that its methodology clearly favored scientific disciplines or medical studies and disregarded the social sciences, business studies, and the liberal arts. Due to the persistent focus in medical science, it is clear that Mahidol has full professors appointed by H.M. the King of Thailand on academic merits and receives research grants/income from both the government and private sectors more than any other Thai university. It has three huge hospitals, each of which runs independently by three different medical schools and other affiliation with medicare institutes. In addition, Mahidol has also produced research papers published in internationally acclaimed, peer-reviewed academic journals more than all other Thai universities. Most of them are related to medical science and public health. Less well known to public domain, Mahidol has several other faculties in addition to the medical schools, including Engineering, Arts, and business schools. The institution was also ranked in the 2006 THES - QS World University Rankings.
