Geography

Mahal is located at 13.7833° N 78.7667° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 497 meters (1633 feet).

History

Though I am not versed well about the Mahal's history, I do know something about this place as this is my Dad's home town and atleast 5 generations prior to him had lived there. I have a thought that this place was once ruled by muslims as the 90% of population of this place are muslims and most of them are afghanis who are very fair complexion and follow very orthodox form of islam. The usual race around this place is dark to wheatish in complexion and Hindu is the predominant religion. A shivalayam on the banks of Bahuda river is a good resemblance of hinduism existence. Though in late 1980's a treasure hunter's expedition has ended up finding a Ranganayaka Swamy's idol. It throws some light that probably this place was once ruled by hindus but later on due to the muslim's conquering it at certain point of time, the hindus were driven out, forcing the hindus to hide the idol under ground which was a practice in rampant in india for a millennium during muslim's invasion in India.
