Mad Dog is the name of an oil platform operating in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana. It became operational in 2005, and is one of a new breed of oil drilling platforms that tap oil reserves deep beneath offshore waters. The field generally produces 110,000 barrels of oil per day and 60 million cubic feet of gas per day.
