Lourdes Secondary School is a Roman Catholic denominational state school in Glasgow that serves the south side boroughs of Mosspark, Crookston, Govan, Pollok, Craigton, Penilee, Hillington and Ibrox as well as the outskirts of the nearby town Paisley, and was opened in the 1950s. The school neighbours Nazareth House and Cardonald College. The building is designed around a quadrangle housing collections of shrubbery and pondlife. Until recently, this area featured a large flowerbed imitation of the school crest that was designed and planted by pupils as part of the celebrations for the new millennium. It consists of one large main building, originally constructed in the 1950s and with an extension added in the 1970s. The school boasts over fifty teaching classrooms, with dedicated areas for science, technical, home economics and music/drama. Three astroturf pitches, several gymnasia, a games hall and a large internal garden area also make up the school grounds. The school underwent extensive refurbishment in 2001, in line with the City Council's Project 2002 programme of school refurbishment. The school houses one of the country's most advanced and state-of-the-art sound engineering units, which pupils use, together with 7 fully equipped IT suites. Academically the school results are very good, and in the most recent GCC Quality Inspection the school scored very highly, particularly in relation to care and welfare of pupils. The current headmaster is Francis Corrigan, who took up the post when Raymond Healy retired in 1999.
