The planning and construction, in the late 1950s, of a central Catholichigh school represented the combined efforts of the six Catholic parishes of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Those parishes were, St. Mary, St. Peter, St. Vincent, Sacred Heart, St. Josaphat, and St. John.
Construction of Lourdes High School began in September of 1958. The first classes began in September of 1959. There were 307 freshmen and sophomores (155 girls and 152 boys) enrolled the first year. Boys and girls attended separate class with the upper floors for girls and lower floors for boys. Some facilities were used by both. Those included science and chemistry labs, gymnasium, chapel, cafeteria, and library.
Addition
The Bill Behring Commons, completed in 2005, is a large open space that faces Witzel Avenue. It serves as both cafeteria, all school worship site, and Performing Arts Center. Featured is a large gathering hallway and space with adjoining rest rooms, trophy cases, concession facilities, athletic directors office, and staff lounge. The huge lobby connects both gym facilities, band room and the student commons, and serves as a reception and gathering area.
A new gymnasium was also constructed, along with new band and choral classrooms.
