Plot

  • Lost Boys 2: The Tribe remains under tight wraps, but the basic plotline was disclosed by Corey Feldman in an interview with MTV: "Once again, you have a fish-out-of-water story of two young folks who move into a new town to visit their relatives and find themselves caught up with a bunch of bloodsuckers. I really like the script because it is very close and very true to the structure of the original film — same kind of scares, same kind of laughs, same kind of relationships."[1]
  • In a press release in Business Wire, Warner Premier revealed more details about the film: "This sequel takes us to the shady surf city of Luna Bay, California, where vampires quickly dispatch anyone who crosses their path. Into this dark world arrive Chris Emerson (Hilgenbrink) and his younger sister, Nicole (Reeser). Having just lost their parents in a car accident, the siblings move in with their eccentric Aunt Jillian and become new prey for the locals’ way of life. When Nicole unwittingly falls for a local vampire, Chris must locate and destroy the gang’s lifeline before his sister’s transformation is complete; to do this Chris finds himself relying on the expertise of none other than Edgar Frog (Feldman). Subtle references to characters from the original film, and cameos from returning actors offer homage to the Lost Boys legend and set a sinister tone of impending doom."[2]
  • Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander will be returning as the vampire slaying "Frog Brothers," Edgar and Alan.[3],[4]
  • Newcomer Greyston Holt, as Evan, finds himself up against the vampire horde as he fights to protect the object of his affection, Reeser.[5]
  • Jason Patric, who portrayed Michael in the first film, was rumored to be returning to the role for a small scene in the sequel, however, this was debunked in MTV's August 28 interview with Corey Feldman.[6][7]
  • While both of the Frog Brothers are returning, only Corey Feldman appears to have a significant role in the new film. Says Feldman: "Warner Bros. has further developed the script — they brought on a great writer (Hans Rodionoff), who came up with a great story line. And in that script they have included (me), Corey Haim and Jamison Newlander as featured parts in the film. In the script, as it is today, I am one of the leads. My involvement is very close to what my involvement was in the first one. So I'm pretty much scattered throughout. (Edgar) was always an outcast, but here his close-knit family have drifted apart. They've had a major problem, and because of that problem, Edgar today is working alone. The film is about him trying to still carry the torch as it were, without the aid and assistance of his partners. That leaves him in an even lonelier and even more delicate place than he was in the first film being the outsider that he already was."[8]
  • Merwin Mondesir, Shaun Sipos, and Kyle Cassie have been cast as the vampires led by Angus Sutherland's character.[9]
  • Moneca Delain has been added to the cast.[10]
  • In August 2007, numerous websites reposted a shocktillyoudrop.com article, citing an anonymous source, stating that Corey Haim would be reprising his Sam Emerson character. [1]. Days later, Haim's representatives confirmed the reports through his official website: "Warner Bros. has officially offered Corey Haim the reprisal of his role as Sam Emerson in the upcoming Lost Boys 2: The Tribe!"[2] In an interview with MTV News, Haim hinted at problems with Corey Feldman. He connected the tension to a famous My Space clip from the The Two Coreys. It showed Haim becoming emotional after Feldman told him that he turned down a part in Lost Boys 2, because Haim was not offered a role. Haim believed Feldman knew that Warner Bros. also wanted him, but intentionally misled him.[3] MTV later reported that Haim’s manager called to reveal “major logistical obstacles that exist”, which could affect his involvement with the film[4]. The problem, implicitly immigration-related, would reportedly have prevented the Canadian-born actor from traveling to the Vancouver set of Lost Boys 2[4]. Haim cited other reasons for his final decision to withdraw from the project. An official statement read,"Corey has made the decision to not participate in the sequel to The Lost Boys (Lost Boys 2: The Tribe). Although Corey wanted very much to participate for his fans, he would prefer to wait for a project he feels will do justice to the original Joel Schumacher film. He was attempting to move forward for his fans, but in the end decided that this project would disappoint them more with him in it than without him"[2]

  • Whether or not Thomas Newman, the first film's music composer, will return to score the sequel is not known.

Production

  • In the early days of principal photography, due to a problem with immigration, Corey Haim was unable to reprise his role as Sam Emerson.[12]
  • Production on Lost Boys 2: The Tribe began in early 2007 and started filming in Vancouver, B.C. in August. Location shooting for the film is rumored to include San Diego and Vancouver, B.C.. Six weeks of production in Squamish and Richmond, outside of Vancouver, will wrap on Sept. 24.
  • In a recent interview with Fangoria (magazine), Tom Savini said the following in regards to his role in the film: "I'm one of the first vampires you see in the movie, I'm a surfer who runs into the vampires at the beginning of the film, in a sequence that is shot very Sergio Leone-style. They're shooting THE TRIBE in Vancouver right now, and I'll be there September 11." [13]
  • Lost Boys 2: The Tribe is "like X Games meets Jackass," Says exec producer Mary Viola. "Today's vampires are adrenaline junkies." From the August 24, 2007 issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine.
  • "...the script is terrific." says Corey Feldman on his blog site. "I spoke to P J (director) on the phone and he really seems to have a passion for it."[14] film today…. As you’ll see below, there’s no Corey Haim anymore."[15]
