Lingayen is a 1st class municipality in the province of Pangasinan on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. It is the capital municipality of Pangasinan. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 88,891 people in 16,467 households. The town was the site of the amphibious landing of U.S. liberation forces under General Douglas MacArthur on 8-9 January 1945, from which U.S. forces punctured the Japanese defenses on Luzon Island and rescued American and allied prisoners of war interned at the University of Sto. Tomas campus in Manila. Lingayen is the birthplace of former President Fidel V. Ramos. Lingayen is the home for world-class products such as bocayo and bagoong. Also in this municipality lies the popular Lingayen Beach.
