The Liberal Democratic Party (Liberal Demokrat Parti) is a liberal party in Turkey. The party is a member of Liberal International. LDP was founded in 1994 as Liberal Parti by Turkish entrepreneur Besim Tibuk. Besim Tibuk was the consultant of Turgut Özal till he died in 17 April 1993. After the death of Turgut Özal, Besim Tibuk decided to found a new party to emphasize the neo-liberal movement in Turkey. After failure in 2002 elections, Tibuk resigned. After Tibuk's resignation the party had some leadership problems till 2005. In June 2005 Cem Toker had become the president of the Party. In 2006 LDP offered an umbrella alliance to 9 political parties both from left and right (including Anavatan and Demokratik Sol Parti) for the basic values of republic against governing conservative democratic party, AKP. However, this plan could not be implemented. Turkey's ruling AKP won 46,7% of the vote in Turkish general election, 2007.
