Earl Yevak, Drew Rosenblatt

Lavinia is a musical project based out of Richmond, Virginia. Starting in 2006, Earl Yevak and Drew Rosenblatt began collaborating with an eclectic array of instruments, including steelpan drums, laptop computers, Güiros and electric guitar. Lavinia's sound ranges from post-rock and shoegaze to ambient and world music.

Name origin

Lavinia is named after Earl Yevak's late grandmother Lavinia Stallings Phoebus (Yevak), who was the great grand daughter of Harrison Phoebus. The name also means "purity" in Latin, which is cohesive with much of Lavinia's lyrics and imagery. Yevak, who is openly a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints often references, though sometimes subtly, spirituality and his longing for spiritual purity in his songs. Members of the LDS Church are often associated with strong ancestral ties, as genealogy is one of the main pillars of the LDS or "Mormon" faith.
