Larry Drown is a Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Vermont. In 2004, he ran against Independent and Democratic ally Representative Bernie Sanders for Vermont's at-large congressional district against the will of his party. Drown came in third, behind Sanders and Republican Greg Parke, winning only 7.1% of the vote. In 2006, when Sanders vacated his House seat in order to run for Senate, Drown planned another campaign challenging Sanders. However, Sanders ran in the Democratic primary election against Drown and defeated him, then turned down the Democratic nomination. This was done to ensure that Sanders did not have a Democratic opponent. In both of his challenges to Sanders, Drown has failed to achieve significant support from national or state Democrats.
