History
The airline began operation in 1977. One year later started charter service and scheduled services the following year. It went bankrupt in 2003, and many of its assets are now owned by Lineas Aereas Federales.
Incidents and accidents
On August 31, 1999, a LAPA Boeing 737-200 crashed during takeoff from Jorge Newbery Airport in Buenos Aires, killing 74, including 10 on the ground. The LAPA Airlines Flight 3142 - LV-WRZ overshot the runway during takeoff, hitting two cars and bursting into flames. The official investigation reported as the immediate cause "the failure of the crew to properly extend the flaps for the take-off roll, despite an aural configuration warning".

In the 2005 movie Whisky Romeo Zulu, the main character is a former LAPA pilot who foresees the accident.
