Kristine Stiles, Professor of Art and Art History at Duke University, is author (together with Peter Selz) of the landmark anthology of artists’ writings, “Theories and Documents of Contemporary Art” (1996). Stiles pioneered art historical studies of destruction in art, performance art, trauma in art, and documentary photography of the Nuclear Age. Born in Denver, Colorado, Stiles took a PhD at the University of California, Berkeley before joining the faculty of Duke University in 1988. She is a recipient of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Fellowship, the Fulbright, and other distinguished awards.
