Kimberly Hunt is one of San Diego's most respected news anchors. Hunt began her on-air television career at the CBS affiliate in Monterey, CA. She came to San Diego in 1987 as an anchor for ABC affiliate, KGTV. Hunt joined the KUSI News team in October 2002. For five years, she anchored the 6:00, 10:00 and 11:00pm weeknight newscasts. Hunt was also a host of the weekend show, San Diego People.[1] In November 2007, Hunt made the decision to return to KGTV. Her final broadcast with KUSI was November 28th. She will co-anchor Channel 10's weeknight newscasts, beginning in January 2008.

Awards
Hunt's excellence in Broadcast Journalism has earned her two personal Emmy Awards for Best Investigative News Story and Best Feature News Story. Her contributions to other reports and newscasts have also garnered many more Emmys. Hunt has earned other awards including a Golden Mic, for her special Postcards From Home during the Persian Gulf War, which linked local Marines with their families via videotaped messages. She was also presented with the Attorney General's Crime Prevention Award.[1]
Community Contributions
Hunt spends much of her free time giving back to the San Diego community. She volunteers as Mistress of Ceremonies, for such organizations as Dia Del Sol (United Cerebral Palsy),[2] The San Diego Burn Institute,[3] and the annual lighting of the Tree of Life, in support of Mama's Kitchen and the fight against HIV and AIDS. [4] In April 2007, Hunt helped to launch the city's 1st annual Sleepless In San Diego, benefiting The San Diego Rescue Mission.[5] Hunt has also committed herself to non-profit organizations with a global perspective. In August 2007, Hunt and her daughter traveled to the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, with Room to Read. They helped to establish classrooms, a library, and a computer lab for underprivileged children. They also awarded scholarships to those children, which will fund their education through high school. In November 2007, Hunt traveled to Nicaragua with Opportunity International. The non-profit's mission is to help millions of poor people around the world, work their way out of poverty. Hunt spent several days on the ground, working with the group's micro-finance program, which provides small business loans to people who do not qualify for traditional bank loans. The loans from Opportunity International allow poor entrepreneurs to start businesses and support their families. Also in November 2007, Hunt and her husband, Billy Ray Smith, were honored with the Legacy Award from Nonprofit Management Solutions, for their charitable contributions, both in San Diego and abroad.[6] Hunt is also active with numerous law enforcement organizations. She serves as emcee for San Diego's annual Shop with a Cop, which pairs officers with underprivileged children, to provide them with holiday gifts.[7] Hunt's dedication to Law Enforcement is driven by family history. Her father was a Lieutenant with the California Highway Patrol, and her grandfather was a Constable with the Ojai Police Department.
History
Hunt is a graduate of San Francisco State University. During college, she worked as a radio news reporter for KVON/KVYN Radio in Napa, California. After graduating, Hunt went to work for ABC Network News as a researcher for Peter Jennings during the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco. At the close of the convention, she began working as an associate producer for ABC's Monday Night Football. During her more than 20 year career, Hunt has interviewed sitting Presidents, Oprah Winfrey, and a myriad of other military, political and business leaders nationwide. She has reported live from the Oscars, Super Bowls, political conventions, and many more major national events.[1] Hunt was born in Ventura, California and raised in Napa. She is married to former San Diego Chargers linebacker, Billy Ray Smith, with whom she has a daughter. Smith is the co-host of The Scott & BR Show, on XX Sports Radio.[8]
