Kier Group plc is a business active in building and civil engineering as well as mining and property development. It is a constituent of the FTSE 250 index.

History

The company was founded by Olaf Kier, a Danish engineer, in the 1920's[1]. It was the subject of a management buy-out from Hanson in 1992 and became listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1996.

Structure

The company has five divisions: Construction, Support Services, Residential, Property and Project Investments[2].

Major projects

Projects involving the Company have included the Lesotho Highlands Water Project completed in 1998[3], Hairmyres Hospital completed in 2001[4] and Snowhill, in Birmingham, which is still under construction[5].
