Kathy Ireland, named “best friend to working mothers” by the Associated Press and The Times began her career as a supermodel before undergoing a “metamorphosis to Super Mogul” as stated by Readers Digest[2] . She has since gained far greater fame and fortune as the leading lifestyle designer and manufacturer in many fields of home furnishings and fashion. The Today Show stated Kathy is “named one of the top celebrity entrepreneurs, edging out even Oprah Winfrey.” Kathy Ireland (born Kathleen Marie Ireland on March 20th 1963 in Santa Barbara, California) was dubbed by Forbes [3] and Newsweek [4] magazine “supermodel-turned-super mogul who has built a business that generates $1.4 billion in retail sales." She followed her initial acclaim by becoming one of the most successful female entrepreneurs and designers in the world, resulting in her being named as the only woman in Inc magazine’s top five celebrity entrepreneurs. Career
Ireland has a modest number of television and movie acting appearances to her credit, including roles in Side Out, Mr. Destiny, Loaded Weapon 1, Twice Upon A Christmas, and Necessary Roughness. Her first movie - 1988's Alien from L.A. - was mercilessly skewered (as were Ireland's acting abilities and idiosyncratic, squeaky voice) when it appeared on the fifth season of Mystery Science Theater 3000. She is the author of Powerful Inspirations: Eight Lessons That Will Change Your Life. Ireland is the chief designer and CEO of Kathy Ireland Worldwide, a billion dollar brand product marketing company[5]. She began this industry in a time (pre-2000) when other fashion models were refusing non-model contracts, which allowed her to begin building her industry before pop culture took the fashion industry into model-style fashion industry. Personal life
Ireland was born Kathleen Marie Ireland in Santa Barbara, California, daughter of Barbara, who was involved with charitable organizations, and John Ireland, a labor union organizer.[6] Ireland is left-handed. She used to work at Petrini's Italian Restaurant, in Santa Barbara, as a waitress. She is married to Dr. Greg Olsen and lives in Santa Barbara, California, with three children: son Erik born, May 1994, and daughters Lily, born 27 October 1998, and Chloe, born March 2003. She has two sisters: Mary Ireland and Cynthia Ireland. Ireland has recently become outspoken about being pro-life. On Politically Incorrect, she said that she used to be pro-choice, and said that after reading her husband's biology books, she determined, "At the moment of conception, life starts". Ireland gave a speech at the 4th Youth Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters on the 13th of August 2007 on a subject of social entrepreneurship and partnerships.
