On August 20, 1885, The Hansung Telegraphy Ministry was established as the first Telecom Authority in Korea, and on December 10, 1981, Korea Telecom Authority founded as the initiation of KT.

1982—1991: Starting PC communication service, HiTEL
  • January 1, 1983: First installation of Korean-made DDD-type public telephones
  • August 1, 1983: International Subscriber Dialing (ISD) service started
  • April 25, 1984: TDX-1, fully digitized telephone switching system, developed
  • July 25, 1984: Packet-exchange air data network opened
