June Slater was a fictional character in the American Soap Opera Loving. She was played for the show's first year by Ann Williams, in what became her last ever soap role.

Character

June was married to Garth Slater, a rather unscrupulous college dean at Alden University in the fictional community of Corinth, Pennsylvania. Out of this union, there was one daughter, Lily Slater (Jennifer Ashe; Britt Helfer), a high school senior who was in love with popular university student, Jack Forbes. To all outsiders, June was a happy and loving wife, and a wonderful mother to their daughter. And why wouldn't she be? She had her ideal life. However, appearances were deceiving; as there were a lot of deep problems that was hidden under this facade of propriety. Mostly it started when Lily met and fell in love with Jack Forbes. Garth didn't like the idea of his daughter dating a member of one of the wealthiest families in Corinth. (Because Jack's father, (or so was thought at the time) Roger Forbes had gained the presidency of the University a job Garth had coveted). But there was another more insidious reason for it. It turned out that Garth harbored feelings of incest towards Lily, and he kept getting his wife drunk and strung out on drugs to keep her from finding out about it. The savage experience caused Lily to split into two personalities, the regular Lily and then Lily #2, who was sassy and flirtatious. However, June did find out about the dirty deed. She caught Garth in Lily's room, attempting again to have sex with her; and in a lucid moment, shot him dead for it. For a while she blocked it out of her mind, until during the trial where Jack was accused of murdering Garth. June blurted out in open court that it was she who killed her husband to protect her own daughter. She was never charged, and she and Lily left Corinth for good to rebuild their lives.
